According to Conservation International, "The ocean is the origin and the engine of all life on this planet — and it is under threat." For the giant body of water that is 71% of the Earth's surface and contains 96.5% of Earth's water, it is quite an important site. Not many people realize the size of it. We do not treat the ocean with the respect that it deserves. For protein sources, three billion people depend on the ocean's life. 44% of the world's population lives within 150 kilometers from a coastline. Solely by the ocean, it produces $2.5 trillion from economic opportunity.

Despite our differences on the issues of climate change and conservation, we must come together as a species to preserve the ocean. It brings us the life and resources we need for our survival, and we need to return the favor. Without our ocean, the water cycle would not exist, food sources would be scarce, and we would lose part of our humanity as an exploratory species.
Many conservation efforts are under way, but they are not enough. They do great things such as clean up coastlines, clean up oil spills, protect marine life, and contain radioactive material. Conservation International exceeds expectations of conserving the ocean. They work with communities around the world to increase fishing sustainability techniques, protect ocean life, and research the effects of climate change. The approval and action of all people is needed to restore the oceans. We must act now before the struggling ocean goes under.
